Banking with LifeCells: a step-by-step guide

Your LifeCells journey begins once you have decided to bank your baby's umbilical cord blood and tissue, once that decision has been made, the process begins. The science behind isolating umbilical cord stem cells is complicated, but the process of collecting and storing your baby’s stem cells really could not be simpler. Here’s how it works:

STEP 5 - your nurse will use your Collection Kit

After birth, your assigned nurse will collect the cord blood and cord tissue and place it carefully into the Collection Kit. If you have purchased a Family Plus or Premium Pack, they will also arrange the collection of a small maternal blood sample which we will test for any pathogens.

STEP 7 - we’ll isolate and count the collected stem cells

Our lab technicians will isolate the cord blood and cord tissue-derived stem cells and will count them to ensure their viability for future use.

STEP 8 - we’ll freeze and store the collected stem cells

Once processed, your baby’s stem cells are cryogenically frozen in the vapour phase of liquid nitrogen and stored in our secure facilities until you need them.

STEP 9 - you’ll receive your Storage Certificate

Once we have analysed samples from your collection and confirmed the number of viable cells, we will send you your Storage Certificate. Should you need your baby’s stem cells in the future, we will take care of everything ensuring you have immediate access to them.
