Accreditations & Licences

When choosing a Stem Cell Bank, LifeCells suggests choosing a bank that:

• Is registered and has been inspected by the HTA for compliance with regulatory requirements. Private cord banks in the UK are highly regulated. The Human Tissue Authority (HTA), a governmental body, oversees the industry and enforces EU legislation on cord blood banking. Establishments engaged in the recovery, screening, testing, packaging, processing, storage, labelling and distribution of human tissue or cells are required to comply with HTA and MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) regulations. At LifeCells, we hold all appropriate cord blood banking accreditations, and our testing is undertaken by partner laboratories registered with the HTA, MHRA and other applicable regulatory agencies.

• Has been inspected and is currently accredited by the association of tissue banks such as FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation for Cellular Therapy) and the AABB (American Association of Blood Banks). FACT and the AABB are the key accrediting bodies for cellular therapies manufacturing. These organisations set the standard for the processing, storage, labelling and distribution of blood products and cellular therapies. Both organisations are professional, non-profit, scientific, and educational organisations dedicated to maintaining high standards of excellence in the industry. To be accredited by these organisations, a company must submit to comprehensive on-site inspections designed to ensure that the bank is professionally managed, appropriately staffed, and maintains policies and procedures that provide consistent quality. Only a few banks in the world have been accredited by the AABB and FACT.

• Works with CQC-registered (Care Quality Commission) nurses and clinicians to facilitate the collection of biological samples. Quality and Service are our top priority. We work exclusively with clinicians that are CQC-registered, as this ensures that each clinician is competent and properly trained to carry out the required procedures. As you interact with our patients, you can rest assured that the care you receive is of the highest quality.

At LifeCells we go above and beyond to ensure our processes and protocols represent the very best in the industry, and our memberships of regulatory and research organisations helps us continuously develop and improve our systems. Every association or organisation maintains strict membership standards related to the processing, storing and shipping of samples, and our memberships demonstrates our commitment to these impeccable standards. Our memberships also allow us to collaborate with key industry partners and remain at the forefront of the field. LifeCells is an active industry member, regularly attending scientific conferences and meetings to drive research and development and ensure our processes and procedures reflect industry best practice and the latest advances in cellular therapies.
